Day 2

In his almost 16 years in Congress, King has passed exactly one bill as primary sponsor, redesignating a post office. He won’t debate his opponent and rarely holds public town halls. Instead, he spends his time meeting with fascist leaders in Europe and retweeting neo-Nazis.
Des Moines Register Editorial Board, October 13, 2018

Day 10

I do want to put this at the feet of Barack Obama. He contributed mightily to dividing us. He focused on our differences rather than our things that unify us. And this is some of the fruits of that labor.
Steve King

* In response to the June 2017 shooting of members of Congress during their baseball practice. Five people were wounded, including House majority whip Steve Scalise.

Day 43

None of the funds made available by this Act may be used to encourage, allow, or require any individual to use any bathroom other than the bathroom of the individual’s biological sex.
Steve King, in amendment to the 2016 bill that funds Congress’ annual payroll, maintenance and operations budget

* King subsequently voted against the bill, since his amendment was not added to it.

Day 51

I can tell you, President Obama’s vision of American is not like our vision of America. Now I don’t assert where he was born, but I will just tell you that we are all certain that he was not raised with an American experience. So these things that beat in our hearts when we hear the national anthem and when we say the pledge of allegiance, doesn’t beat the same for him.
Steve King

Day 56

Democrats want to destroy the credibility of the objective truth.
Steve King

* We went down into the Library of Congress and found a microfiche there of two newspapers in Hawaii, each of which had published the birth of Barack Obama. It would have been awfully hard to fraudulently file the birth notice of Barack Obama being born in Hawaii and get that into our public libraries and that microfiche. That doesn’t mean there aren’t some other explanations on how they might’ve announced that by telegram from Kenya.

Day 66

United We Dream, an undocumented youth activist group, organized a protest at the Iowa congressman’s office. Two dozen or so demonstrators showed up at King’s office to voice their displeasure with him, and they arrived wearing caps and gowns to reinforce their message that they want to pursue higher education and careers in the U.S.

* The DACA recipients were not immune from U.S. law.

Day 69

In my office, I have placed the portrait of Phyllis Schlafly, whose leadership to advance conservative principles is surpassed by none.
Steve King, recipient of the 2018 Phyllis Schlafly Award for Leadership

* Sexual harassment on the job is not a problem for virtuous women.
** So long as her husband earns a good income, a woman doesn’t care about the pay gap between them.

*** By getting married, the woman has consented to sex, and I don’t think you can call it rape.

Phyllis Schlafly

Day 72

If it makes sense to legislate a minimum wage, it also makes sense to legislate a living wage. And, if it makes sense to legislate a living wage, it makes sense to simply legislate prosperity. If Congress passed a law that everyone had to make $1,000,000 a year, there would only be a handful of people with a job in this country.

Day 84

I don’t find any prohibition to separating children from their parents at the border. There’s nothing cruel about this.* **
Steve King

* Teenagers as young as 14 were handcuffed, slammed against walls, stabbed with pens, subjected to anti-Latino and other racist remarks, and stripped down to their underwear, forced to spend hours strapped to the restraint chair.

Day 90

There probably are not 72 virgins in Islamic terrorists’ hell; if there are, they probably all look like Helen Thomas.*
Steve King

* Helen Thomas (1920-2013) was an American reporter and author best known for her longtime membership in the White House press corps. She covered the White House during the administrations of ten U.S. presidents—from the start of the Kennedy administration to the second year of the Obama administration.
