Day 2

In his almost 16 years in Congress, King has passed exactly one bill as primary sponsor, redesignating a post office. He won’t debate his opponent and rarely holds public town halls. Instead, he spends his time meeting with fascist leaders in Europe and retweeting neo-Nazis.
Des Moines Register Editorial Board, October 13, 2018

Day 10

I do want to put this at the feet of Barack Obama. He contributed mightily to dividing us. He focused on our differences rather than our things that unify us. And this is some of the fruits of that labor.
Steve King

* In response to the June 2017 shooting of members of Congress during their baseball practice. Five people were wounded, including House majority whip Steve Scalise.

Day 32

I manage this. I’m in charge of this. I don’t need to answer these kind of questions.
Steve King

* Responding to questions about his campaign finances, This election cycle, King’s campaign has raised $509,475. Of that $107,500 (21 percent) has been paid to Jeff King, the congressman’s son and campaign manager. An additional $51,300 (10 percent) has been paid to Jeff’s wife, Lindsay.

Day 34

Time after time, when the hand of Donald Trump reached out and touched something, it turned into something good.
Steve King

* Immigrant children being separated from parents; 3,000 dead after Hurricane Maria; wrecked relationships with our closest, most consistent allies; U.S. deficit hitting $1 trillion two years early; significant increase in rate of Americans uninsured; record Cabinet turnover; agriculture bailout; last week, soybean prices reached a 10-year low.

** Trump Airlines, Trump Mortgage, Trump Casinos, Trump University (all failed, leaving outstanding debt or bankruptcies)

Day 43

None of the funds made available by this Act may be used to encourage, allow, or require any individual to use any bathroom other than the bathroom of the individual’s biological sex.
Steve King, in amendment to the 2016 bill that funds Congress’ annual payroll, maintenance and operations budget

* King subsequently voted against the bill, since his amendment was not added to it.

Day 51

I can tell you, President Obama’s vision of American is not like our vision of America. Now I don’t assert where he was born, but I will just tell you that we are all certain that he was not raised with an American experience. So these things that beat in our hearts when we hear the national anthem and when we say the pledge of allegiance, doesn’t beat the same for him.
Steve King

Day 54

The Constitution never contemplated a president–like Obama–to have that level of boldness, to issue edicts by Executive Order.
Steve King, 2013

If Obama enacts more executive actions, we need to bring impeachment hearings immediately before the House of Representatives.
Steve King, 2014

I’m encouraged by the string of Executive Orders that Trump has rolled out.
Steve King, 2017

Day 56

Democrats want to destroy the credibility of the objective truth.
Steve King

* We went down into the Library of Congress and found a microfiche there of two newspapers in Hawaii, each of which had published the birth of Barack Obama. It would have been awfully hard to fraudulently file the birth notice of Barack Obama being born in Hawaii and get that into our public libraries and that microfiche. That doesn’t mean there aren’t some other explanations on how they might’ve announced that by telegram from Kenya.

Day 57

We will not become the Land of Prosperity by increasing our debt and deficit.
Steve King, 2013

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act passed late last year is the best vote I have cast as a member of Congress.
Steve King, 2018

Day 66

United We Dream, an undocumented youth activist group, organized a protest at the Iowa congressman’s office. Two dozen or so demonstrators showed up at King’s office to voice their displeasure with him, and they arrived wearing caps and gowns to reinforce their message that they want to pursue higher education and careers in the U.S.

* The DACA recipients were not immune from U.S. law.

Day 69

In my office, I have placed the portrait of Phyllis Schlafly, whose leadership to advance conservative principles is surpassed by none.
Steve King, recipient of the 2018 Phyllis Schlafly Award for Leadership

* Sexual harassment on the job is not a problem for virtuous women.
** So long as her husband earns a good income, a woman doesn’t care about the pay gap between them.

*** By getting married, the woman has consented to sex, and I don’t think you can call it rape.

Phyllis Schlafly

Day 72

If it makes sense to legislate a minimum wage, it also makes sense to legislate a living wage. And, if it makes sense to legislate a living wage, it makes sense to simply legislate prosperity. If Congress passed a law that everyone had to make $1,000,000 a year, there would only be a handful of people with a job in this country.
Steve King

* See Day 99

Day 73

Instead of representing only their own voluntary members, unions take advantage of federal law that gives them the tyrannical power to force every worker to accept monopoly bargaining.*
Steve King, Congressional representative of Ames,  Iowa

As a union member in Ames, she received regular raises, from 2 percent to almost 7 percent. She had good health insurance with no monthly premium. But that changed last year when Iowa’s Republican-controlled legislature passed a law gutting public-sector unions. Collective bargaining was severely restricted. Union workers got a 1 percent pay hike this year. And Isabel’s health care now costs $80 a month.
Washington Post, August 17, 2018

Day 76

If you studied history, you’d recognize Senator McCarthy was a great American hero.
Steve King

Senator McCarthy, by his reckless charges, has so preyed upon the fears and hatreds and prejudices of the American people that he has started a prairie fire which neither he nor anyone else may be able to control.
– J. William Fulbright, longest-serving chairman of the United States Senate Foreign Relations Committee, from 1959 to 1974

Day 78

I searched for the word ‘Multicultural’ on the Iowa State website, and it came back with 59 different multicultural groups that operate on campus. It started with Asians and it ended with Zeitgeist—so from A to Z. Most of them were victims groups, victimology, people that feel sorry for themselves. And they’re out there recruiting our young people to be part of the group that feels sorry for themselves.
Steve King

Day 84

I don’t find any prohibition to separating children from their parents at the border. There’s nothing cruel about this.* **
Steve King

* Teenagers as young as 14 were handcuffed, slammed against walls, stabbed with pens, subjected to anti-Latino and other racist remarks, and stripped down to their underwear, forced to spend hours strapped to the restraint chair.
– Detainees and a former worker

** See Day 99

Day 89

If there’s a sexual predator out there who has impregnated a young girl, he could pick that girl up off the playground at the middle school, and haul her across the state line and force her to get an abortion, and bring her back and drop her off at the swing set, and that’s not against the law in the United States.
Steve King

* See Day 99

Day 90

There probably are not 72 virgins in Islamic terrorists’ hell; if there are, they probably all look like Helen Thomas.*
Steve King

* Helen Thomas (1920-2013) was an American reporter and author best known for her longtime membership in the White House press corps. She covered the White House during the administrations of ten U.S. presidents—from the start of the Kennedy administration to the second year of the Obama administration.
